Janelle Monae has done it again, dropping a dope video that pushes boundaries and keeps things FRESH in an otherwise boring mainstream world! ‘Many Moons’ is her second single and though it feels a little Outkast circa “Hey Ya”, she brings a futuristic feel we dig. She’s got the Swagger culture running through her veins so check the new spot! Just for you are our favorite shots we’ve taken of Ms. Monae over the past year. Enjoy. -sP
As you know, we’re all about giving props where they’re due. The artwork for Kanye’s newest single, ‘Love Lockdown’, is so dope. Simple, clean, textured and powerful. This dude’s got an ear for beats and an eye for style. Damn Kanye, do you ever get it wrong? -sP

We just look at Javana and smile! She’s everything we want to see from a woman on the New York streets—cute, classy and edgy. She burns it up in the red cheetah dress with the oversized black belt, but don’t glance over the coordinating cheetah print flats…she’s no joke! The knit hat is still fresh for Fall 08 and the black leather coat, black scarf and tights make the unique look chic. This chick doesn’t purr, she growls. Get ‘em! -sP

Richie threw down some impressive b-boying skills at the Bronx Museum’s “Street Art Street Life” break dancing competition on Saturday! His threads are so throwback 80s, we can’t get enough. Check the windbreakers (some call ‘em ‘swishies’) and the hat to the back. Ah, nostalgia feels so good! For more info on the exhibit, click here. -sP

Finally, some throwback love! The Bronx Museum debuted its ode to street culture on Sunday with the exhibit, “Street Art Street Life”. The REAL jump-off was held on Saturday, though! B-boys and B-girls from around the city threw down for NYC’s break-dance title. Some looked like the 8-year old above (whhhaaat!) and others came fresh to death like B-boy Christian (Rock)! The beats were infectious and the dancing was sick, we just don’t get why kids aren’t throwin’ down moves on the block anymore! It’s time for a comeback! Check Swagger tomorrow for more! We love the alternate universe where Ms. Badu lives, breathes, creates and INSPIRES. She makes music that’s funky and memorable, not to mention she says whatever comes to her cranium (Danger, Tyrone, etc). RESPECT. But most of all, Badu’s got SWAG for days. Check the above shot from a recent King Magazine photoshoot, where Badu looks like a multi-colored popsicle that we wouldn’t mind licking! (Is that OK?) The finger-rings remind us of the Funky Fly Crew we shot a little while ago, and the hats make Dr. Seuss look like a trendsetter. Damn, Badu is BAD! -sP
We want your art on every wall, door and truck. Please provide. Tell haters Swagger says it’s OK to express yourself. -sP
We caught up with Saige and Luisa at a little concert in Central Park…hell, from this shot, it looks like they were the rockstars! Luisa’s rockin’ the always-appreciated throwback Mickey shirt, high-waisted shorts and a lot a leg! Saige’s got a more complicated look bringin’ together some cheetah print, a bourgie chain-link scarf and hell of a necklace game. Check the ‘Domina’ piece with the, um, peace pendant. Good looks, wise Saige!-sP
We ran across this piece of street art while chillin’ in the East Village. It’s an homage to Keith Haring, the ‘visual language’ artist of the 20th century, who was inspired by city graffiti. It’s just got a dope feeling to it, from the exaggerated lines around the images to the colors and the rawness. Haring used to chalk up the NYC subways with sick works, like this one. We’re gonna be lookin’ out for more fly street art, so if you know any hit us up! And check our old-skool site for more art. -sP
